Preface

Dear Sir Alan,

Thank you for the inspiration on how I can fill the vacancy on Animal a 20 foot cat beach cat sailing out of Dee Sailing Club at Thurstaston, Wirral.

The Dee Apprentice Scheme

Potential crews can compete to win this coveted crewing position on one of the biggest cats at Dee. Animal, a two sail, twin wire Nacra 6, for most of the 2005 season.

It could be You!

The ideal candidate will be an ex-Olympic meadalist or world champ, but failing that you will need;

•  A sense of humour
•  Ability to swim in sailing clothing
•  Ability to take the blame
•  Ability to pull heavy sheets (ropes) in
•  Ability to know when to let heavy sheets out again (this can be taught)
•  Your own kit.
•  Willingness to be strapped into a tight fitting harness, in a rubber suit, hung from the mast with just your toes on the boat and have cold water blasted at you at high speed whilst keeping a good lookout all round and the boat the right way up and racing?.
•  Ability to read numbers and relate these to course instructions would help
•  Ability to keep sense of humour intact, underwater
•  Ability to spot my mistakes and correct tactfully

In return, you will get:

•  A dream salary, as in 'dream on!'
•  A regular slot for most of the season
•  Racing on the Dee and further afield
•  Shouted at
•  Blamed
•  Dunked
•  A lot of sailing
•  A chance to fit into one of the most sociable fleets at Dee

Obviously sailing is a risk sport so you have to accept that mistakes and incidents can happen but since I don't want to get hurt either, we will build up the teamwork and skills as we build up the challenges. This is a big boat in the 'Fast Cat' fleet so ideally I would like a grown up, preferably with 'own car and tow bar' so we can do events whilst leaving the number one crew ('Er indoors) with the car.

To arrange a trial sail drop me an email.
