Round Hilbre 2

The second Round Hilbre race looked all set to be a fast one, with a forecast of SE winds averaging in the mid teens and peaking in the mid twenties. The wind direction certainly favoured the Fast Cats with their spinnakers, but beating over the ebbing tide slowed everyone's return markedly. The Fast Cats still pulled off a 1,2,3 (but then, so they should have with spinni's flying all the way to Hilbre!). Surprise guests Ali and Brige Davidson either felt the 'old fleet' needed a hand, or they were eyeing the forecast on one hand and their tattered Round Hilbre record in the other... or as stated, they just fancied a nice sail at their local friendly cat club. It was worth their time, in that they ran away with a win, but alas, no record.

Three Darts went solo today, which was an unusual sight. I don't think anyone was after exploiting the slightly better handicap they get when solo - it seemed more of an adventure or experiment. In case anyone isn't aware, we are actively considering allowing boats with a variable handicap (depending on crew & sails used) to use the appropriate handicap for the day, while accumulating their results over the series.

No dinghies entered today - Tony came close but appeared to be put off by the late start allocated to his fleet. It was probably a good decision - we all struggled to get past the islands without rudders kicking up. There must be a viable route out there somewhere! Added to that, the trip back was sluggish even for the fastest boats.

Another good trip, which has proved popular with members. Over two races we have had 14 Cats and 3 Monohulls enter the fray. Nothing is settled yet, with two different winners and a third boat currently leading the table. So if you haven't tried it yet, I would urge you to give it a go. Combined Results.
