Penmaenmawr Spring Open, Sunday 21 May

I have just received news from Penmaenmawr that their Spring Open is being held this Sunday. The start is at 11:30. Four races are planned, round the cans, possibly to include a trip to the Fairway Buoy off Conwy. I have no guilt about publicising their event because they're offering a good day's sailing on a day when ours will be in shallow water well into the evening... so you have a choice. If you are quick enough at de-rigging, you might even manage to do both!

The weather forecast is the same for them as for us - ESE winds averaging mid teens (mph) gusting top twenties. Given their location on a North facing shore, this should lead to flattish waters with a decent blow.

Pen is a great place to sail, with an area extending to Puffin Island to the West and Great Orme to the East. Given the tides on this occasion they'll also have a sandy beach for rigging and launching.

While a small club, Pen claims eight Darts, and a few Fast Cats, as well as dinghies. They're likely to provide tough competition in challenging conditions, being somewhat more used to strong winds and taking on whatever the sea throws at them. They have also been keen to trade events with us, so we should encourage them to visit us in due course.

Further details on their poster (200Kb) and good info on their location etc on their website.
