New Start Sequence
In response to requests from some of the Dart fleet, the Sailing Committee decided to revise the Start Sequence for club races. This will initially be run as an experiment, so please pass your comments to your fleet captain.
The Dart 18 fleet and the Fast Cat fleet have swapped places, so the new sequence is:
- LBSAs
- Fast Cats
- Dart 18
- Handicap Cats
- Handicap Dinghies
Based on last Sunday's first use of this sequence, a couple of issues arise:
- Darts please stay clear of the start area during the FC start sequence (especially the triangle to starboard and downwind of the Ark) .
- Fast Cats need to get off the beach earlier - we're starting 3 minutes earlier than before and should not hold up the start sequence while we rig.
- On a short course, the Fast Cats may be coming back towards the line as the H'cap Cats and Dinghies are Starting - remember that if both boats are on starboard, windward boats must stay clear, even if you have a spinni up, one hull out of the water and a gust hits. Ditto if you are on port.
The benefits of the new sequence is that the Darts get clear air throughout their race. The downside is that the Fast Cats don't get to play cat & mouse with them...
