12 June

Wayfarer and Dinghy News

Hi everyone,

As the tides start to become more favourable for us, so the cruising programme now begins in earnest.

Next Sat ( 16 June ) there will be an informal cruise up the channel to Sheldrakes ( and beyond ? ) leaving the beach at 11.15 am - All welcome.

On the following day there is a second chance to attempt the cruise round Hilbre commencing on the water at 11.45.

The next weekend ( 23 / 24 June ) a shore talk has been arranged commencing at 2.15 pm in the dinghy park which will cover the subject of reefing and the gear you need to do this whilst afloat.

The following day, Sunday 24 June ? is the Commodore's Cruise to see the seals, go to sea ( if you wish ) , join in the racing, and have a barbecue on the Hoyle bank, although it appears a very early start will have to be made with High Water being 0640 ? ( to be able to launch a Wayfarer without getting in the mud the probability is that this needs to be done by 1.5 hrs after HW )

Sat 30 th June a further informal cruise is being planned , either across to the Old Ship, or a joint cruise with the micro cruisers with some of our fleet members crewing on the cruisers . This is an idea to try and get some inter ?fleet activity going and help those cruiser sailors who don't have regular crews. Start time off the beach is planned for 10.15 a.m.

One small organizational matter I have been asked to point out is that due to the relatively short sailing period we have either side of HW , the cruise destinations have been set up around using the maximum time available . This means that we need to get off the beach as soon as possible as a complete group , for both social and safety reasons. The starting times given are ? off the beach times ? and you need to allow yourselves an hour or so prior to get the boats rigged and towed to the beach before the stated time.

Equally for those cruising events in the formal club programme , it would be helpful to the Captain and his team if we could designate a window when the tractor is available. It is suggested that this is 30 ? 45 mins prior to the Off the Beach time for launching and a further 45mins commencing 45 mins after HW for recovery. Please let have your comments on this proposal.

For those of you wishing to try your hand at racing on a Sunday but don't have much experience , don't worry about - Any of the more experienced racers will be happy to talk you through it , and if there is sufficient demand Simon and I will repeat our talk on Getting to the start line and getting round the course. The best way is to join in and follow the fleet around for a start ! [ Monohulls start last anyway - and Phantoms ( plus the odd Int Canoe )lead the way ]

Finally for this month , please note the article in Mainsheet relating to the clear up of both the boat park and the top field after 1 July. ? Basically, boats, trailers etc that appear to have no owner and / or abandoned will be removed from the club premises . All members with boats parked at the club are reminded that they should have paid their storage fees for 2007 !

See you on the beach.

Doug
