12 July

Wayfarer and Dinghy News

Hi Everyone,

First, the cruising programme for the nexyt few weeks is as follows :

Sat 14 July - depart beach 10 15am  A cruise across the estuary and up the Dee to Bagilt Creek

Sun 15 July - A chance to cruise round Hilbre if the weather is OK or join the racing. Starts 11.00am

Sat 28 July- dapart beach 09.15a.m. - A gentle training cruise down to West Kirby with bags of time for the smaller boats.

Sat 4 August 13.45 pm start - If weather and wind OK we will cruise to Flint.

For those of you who have not yet managed to join us having fun the water, our organised cruises have been attracted some 7 boats on a Satuerday and the 2 Sunday cruises have seen 5 and 4 boats respectively set off for Hilbre. Due to wind and tides only the second cruise succeeded in getting round the island and back ( just ! )  - Steve had great fun being followed by a seal for quite a time.
Two impromptu cruises have been held during June / July - one up beyond Sheldrakes - great fun in trying to get back when there was more tide and less wind and having to beat back. A second cruise  with only 2 boats setting off, due to the weather,  saw Jon try out his recently acquired Gull . Both boats made it to the Old Ship across the estuary and back in fairly brisk conditions.
Everyone is welcome and we can find a ride fror you if you don't have crew , feel you have not got enough experience to go by yourself , or don't have a boat.  Whilst the cruises in the programme do have "destinations" these can be changed on the day to suit everyone who turns up. However the published  " Leave the beach" time is important due to the tidal restrictions and minimising the time the Captain's tractor team have to hang around.
Next, welcome to Alan Schofield who has recently joined Dee S C and sails W9808 " Phaselus" . We all look forward to you joining with us on the estuary and joining the gang in getting together to launch and redover from the beach.
Thirdly, it would be remiss of me not to mention that Ian Mc Lean has now taken over from Mike Johnson as Rear Commodore Sailing due to the latter having resigned due to work committments ( he now works for the Coastguard - so be polite when you call them up ! ) Thanks must go to Mike for his support in getting the Saturday sailing off the ground, even though he is a Cat sailor. Equally, I know we will get every support from Ian who is anxious to see us all on the water on a regular basis, no matter what our activity preference
Finally, Saturday 21 July sees the annual Wombaff Trophy competition being held on the Marine Lake at W Kirby, starting at 1.00p.m.  This is a team racing competition between the different Dee SC flleets and consists of 3 man teams sailing sigle handed Picos. It would be great if the Wayfarers and dinghy cruisers could wnter a team ( even better win as the outsiders ) Would anyone interested in taking part please let me know by return e mail and I will sort our enty out.

See you on the beach,

Doug Reeson
