Wayfarer and Dinghy News
Hi everyone,
First welcome to Brian Leyland and Geoff Mc Donough to the Wayfarer Brigade who have recently joined the club having bought SunnyDee.
What a hive of activity Wayfarer And Dinghy Cruising Fleet has seen since the last newsletter.
Whilst one event had to be postponed due to the weather and destinations of cruises changed, much experience has been gained at sailing with reefed sails and in heavy weather conditions ? These cruises have been to Baguilt, Little Eye and across to the Old Ship. The Saturday training session 2 weeks ago saw a record 9 boats on the water including 3 Cats, and several people having their first taste of estuary sailing. ? Please keep coming to these sessions which we can tailor to your needs ? From basic crewing to helming in a race and destination cruising
On a club wide scale we entered a team in the Wombaff Trophy much to the merriment of the skilled Team Racing teams and the Juniors in particular. This event was held on the lake in Picos and wet weather. Nevertheless fun was had by all and , hopefully, it will encourage a few more of us to take part in the club racing on the estuary. Again, in pouring rain last Saturday, there was great turn out to help tidy up the boat park and reallocate boats between the upper and lower field. The dinghy fleet now has virtually the whole of the area to the rear of the clubhouse for berthing active bots. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TURNED UP.
Due to the tides there is no sailing this Saturday and racing on Sunday is early morning.
However Monday being a Bank Holiday offers plenty of scope with water available from about 9.00 am . The pursuit race postponed from earlier in the year is to be held , but that still leaves ample opportunity for other interests ? Let's see how many boats we can get on the water.
Sat 1st Sept sees our last formal cruise of the season and with a 9.3m tide allows us to re run the postponed trip to Flint ? start from the beach at 12.30 ? All boats will need to be self sufficient and as many as possible with outboards since Dawpool may not be available to us due to it being the Junior Raid on Crooks Landing
Sun 2nd Sept gives us another opportunity to sail around Hilbre: start 1330.
For the remaining weeks of the season it is intended to hold some additional training events which will be held on Sundays to give those who haven't been able to sail with us on Sats a chance to try their hand on the estuary, and those who have gained confidence on Sats a chance to try their hand with the racers ( or cruise around the course at the back of the fleet if you prefer. )
Sunday start times will be
Sun 9th at 09:00
Sun 16th at 13:00
Sun 30th at 12:15
Let's see how big a fleet we muster against the cats and regular racing fleet.
If you have any particular requirement / activity ( including a boat to ride in let me know )
See you on the beach,
Doug
