Phantom Nationals

To the casual observer looking at this year's phantom results one might assume I had two days of average ?Pryer' sailing followed by an absolute ?blinder' where lady luck shone brightly on 1258.

However I can assure the more sceptical amongst you that this was all part of a well-developed cunning plan. Not wanting to peak too early I saved my best performance for the last day!

My long term strategy ? (all of three days) meant that on races 1 ? 4 (first two days) I would go out and sail into big holes with no wind while all around sailed merrily away, I combined that with my old favourite of consistently going the wrong side of beats and finally (icing on the cake) when starting I made sure I was on the second and third row (nothing like giving the others a head start).

While this all sounds negative my plan was working a treat and on the third day first race (5) I was off the start line like Ian Mac heading for his first pint on a Friday evening at the club, picked the right side to go up the beat (at last) and rounded in fourth place and managed to stay there through to the finish ? ?big cheesy grin'. Next race (6) same plan, not quite as effective but managed to come 11 th .

I finished 22 nd in a fleet of 71 boats ? can't beat a little planning although next year at Felixstowe I might reverse my logic!! > I am now waiting for the sponsorship deals to come flooding in!!!
