Fast Cat News

Hi,

Spring, Summer and Autumn 2007 are now officially behind us, not to mention Warmup and Champagne: I have just published the results: Overall Fast Cat Results 2007 Quite a mix up, with ?new boys? Richard (Swallow) Stacey and Ian (Captain) Kirk finishing in the top four in the Overall results, with Colin knocked back from last year's second to third this year. There were some very close results too, with three points covering 2nd - 4th places, and another three covering 6th -8th . Especially nice to see a Spitfire 1,2. These ?little' boats aren't half bad! Well done Rich.

The competition will be even hotter next year. After three very successful years, following one spent upside-down, Team White Tiger will be hanging up their boat. But it isn't all good news! Jonathan is likely to hone his helming skills on a Dart 16, but may be open to crewing offers for the right deal. He'll be out to embarrass any ?fast cats' that he can catch on the water, so beware! Meantime, I will be hoping to get in everyone's way, or at least give a close chase, on a single-hander Shadow (looks like a baby Spitfire, only with a more feisty rep for tipping the driver in the briny). I'm convinced that we'll see a lot more close racing next year, with the winner of each series coming from a pool of at least five of us. Hence, the pots are up for grabs, but you will have to turn up and sail hard to get them! I can see each series going down to the last race, every time.

2007 may not be completely tidied away yet, as we head towards Winter. I had little intention of sailing in winter, and can well understand anyone who has put their boat away for the year ? everyone except Animal that is, based on a look round the boat park! I now plan to sail when I can in Winter, but ?racing' may be too strong a term for it. I know a couple more may be up for it, so do feel free to join in. The format is simple: all boats/fleets race together, round a windward/leeward course. No pots. Just practise, and pride!

The Warm-Up starts in January, and that does count towards the Overall title for 2008. So you may want to ask Santa for extra thermals, and ice-breaker bows?

I am hopeful that our Mark Quotient will be properly filled this year ? Mark's Astbury, Emptage and Bailey are all expected to make appearances, which should result in us fielding close to ten boats each week.

Cheers,
Simon
