Fast Cat News

It's been a while,? and it's called Winter. Now that's over, there's plenty of action coming along to tempt you from your lairs.

Bigger Fleet
Good news in the growth department already ? we have absorbed all cats except Dart 16 and Dart 18 into our fleet. OK, so not so many, yet, but we've opened the doors to a larger cat fleet. And?Roo? has been sailing a Topaz CX (another 16 foot, twin trapeze, spinni cat) during winter, and I am sure he'll join the racing soon. The Dart 16s will start with the monohulls, and use their courses. However, I'm open to them joining us too. We've also received promises of improved attendance this year from Mark Bailey and Alex and Mark Astbury, as well as the Brothers Bains. The Start Line could be getting quite busy!

New Courses
Look out for new Course Cards, appearing soon on the website and behind the Bar ? they'll be completely different, although, with one addition, we are using the same marks as before. The idea is that the RO can look to windward, select the appropriate windward mark, and after deciding whether to go Short / Standard / Long, he can display a single course number. The neat thing is that each fleet has a different course for each displayed number. I have chosen courses for our fleet which range up and downwind as much as possible, while including a significant amount of reaching too. I hope they are equally biased to all. In case that sounds too limiting, the final course number (9) allows the RO to make it up on the spot, which could result in W/L, Reaching, or anything else.

Shinier Flag
Whilst going to town on the Course Card, I have taken the opportunity to replace our flag with a more distinctive one: C for Cats. This is more different than the old F, compared to H especially. So now you are looking for blue, red and white horizontal stripes. Except on a light wind day, when they'll be vertical.

Easter Monday Racing
We all usually propose Easter as the date we will start sailing again ? but I have to say that the Darts have stolen the March on us with a couple of decent turnouts already. We can make amends on Easter Monday, with a special event laid on for frustrated club sailors. Courses and prizes are yet to be determined, but we have got all of Easter to get it, and ourselves, organised.

Single Hander Competition
The monohullists have agreed that we will run a catamaran fleet alongside them in the Single Hander competition on 20 April. Likely format is three races, using Olympic courses, probably shared with the monos, but with separate starts. I have promoted this on the F16 and Shadow web sites. If you have other ideas, please promote the event, or send me your ideas. Club racing will also be taking place, so now you're spoilt for choice!

Open Day ? May 10th
The Club's Open Day is coming. Please set aside the day if you can, to help on shore, in and around the club house, or on the water giving ?pleasure' rides. Sailing will be from around 3pm, and a BBQ will follow. So, with good weather overdue, it should be a great day out.

Finally, thanks to Nigel, Colin and Ian for helping out at the Dart Open over Easter.

I hope to see you, ready to lose the cobwebs, on Easter Monday!

Simon
