Junior News Update
Many thanks to James for his update on the accomplishments of the club Juniors during the Summer. There's a lot of potential out there!
Simon some notes on Juniors on tour for web site:
Following his showing in the UK Optimist circuit and a very good finish at the UK team selection trials James Hazelwood was asked to join the Optimist UK summer national training squad.
James has also won the Budworth optimist open, the WKSC optimist open and the Northern Area championships.
Alex Douglas was 3rd at Budworth and second at WKSC and in the Northern area champs.
Max Spedding was 4th at Budworth and third at WKSC and in the Northen area champs.
The regatta starter fleet at the Northern Area champs was made up almost completely of Dee SC members, Charlie Ewing, David and Sam Bain, Tom and Abigail Sanders. David was second and Charlie 3rd.
Cameron Douglas has been sailing on the UK Laser 4.7 circuit as well as the Laser Radial UK circuit. He was 5th at the recent windy Parkstone 4.7 ladder and leads the UK ladder with two events to go.
He also attended the first 3 Laser Radial UK ladder events and after 3 events was the leading UK Youth (18 and under) sailor on the ladder and just about the youngest. He managed a 3rd place overall in the event at Weymouth winning one race.
As leading Youth he was selected to the Team GBR team for the Laser Radial Youth Europeans in France. He was placed 48th overall out of 186 and 2nd Junior overall.
Dee SC was well represented at Abersoch Dinghy week.
James Hazelwood again set the pace in the Optimist class with Alex D coming 4th.
Mike Moruzzi and Jonny Harris came 6th in a very competitive fast handicap class.
Alex Harris had a very impressive victory in the Junior Handicap class in his Topper.
Alex Douglas crewing for his Dad in the Dart 18 won the junior prize at the Anglesey Long Distance Dinghy race.
James and Alex D have just completed the Optimist Senior National championships at Pwllheli SC. James finished 41st and 25th British sailor out of 155. Alex had some very good races with a 15th and 20th as his best race results but too many OCS scores (5!) left him in 124 overall.
Max Spedding had his first nationals outing in the Juniors fleet and managed to finish 128 out of 160, he finished every race which was no mean feat on the Monday when there was a huge swell and gust of over 25knots.
Cameron Douglas competed at the Laser Radial National championships at Abersoch in a fleet of 155 boats. He made the gold fleet split and finished 39th overall which was a very solid result for a windy week of sailing. He was 4th Junior overall.
There are more reports to follow as Mike Moruzzi and Jonny Harris compete in the 420 National championships this week and Cameron is on his way to Croatia as part of the British Team at the Laser 4.7 worlds championship.
