31 Oct News Update

Fit for Sailing. The last 3 Wednesday nights from 19:00 to 20:00 there has been circuit training especially for helms and crew. It is said by the author of several coaching books 'Eric Twiname' that racing is only 1 of 12 ways to 'Prepare to Win'. Another of those 12 key ways are the development of physical fitness. DSC offers the opportunity for club members and their friends to join in a custom made programme of training to develop their strength, flexability and stamina. This may compliment an existing fitness regime or on its own may help as an introduction to regular exercise. These sessions are free of charge to members and highly recommended as a Winter activity to 'stay sailing' fit for the New Year.

'PRIZE GIVING 18TH DECEMBER' Put that date in your diary. The planning for this event is now underway with results being collated by the fleet captains. The hardest part every year is to get the Trophies back and ready to be engraved for the new winners. THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!! If you won a trophy in 2004 then please get the polish out, polish said trophy(ies) and then return to James Douglas, (contact details in members handbook). It really does help to make the prize giving go smoothly, if we can Complete this part of the exercise before  4TH NOVEMBER 2005!!. Many thank's. James D.

The DSC Halloween Party enticed a variety of ghoulish and spooky revelers from their nocturnal reverie. Accolades from those who attended include, "It was a truly horrible experience"! Child demon #3, "I only came out for a spell"! Wacky Witch, "I was really really frightened"! DSC Commodore Ian Mc, "I got very very WET"! Kim M....."I think free events are a great idea", Pete S and finally, "I've seen better prizes in a cereal box"! Rear Com (Soc). It was a truly FUN night with many thanks to the volunteer helpers who made it happen.

Fit for Sailing began again this Wed after a gap of 4 months. There was gasping for air and much wheezing and that was just laying out the Circuit. Two rounds of 12 disciplines of 60 seconds duration for the start of this Winter programme. The exercises are devised and developed to carve honed sailing machines from the unfired clay of DSC helms and crews. Check out the events banner to the left of web pages to keep up to date with the next session. Launch into the New Year with buns of steel, pecs of granite and a grip like our Commodore on a £5 note.

5 Sep DeeTour to Wales, Summer '05
A good few of our up and coming young sailors persuaded their (willing) parents to decamp to Pwllheli and Abersoch for the month of August. Their goal was to do well in the high profile Optimist Nationals and Mirror Week events. Not only did they do very well, it looks like they had fun too! Results and Pictures.

31 Aug DSC Club Championship Briefing
There will be a briefing for the Club Championship on Sunday 4 Sept at 9:30 in the Clubhouse. We expect the racing to be a little 'non-standard', so it is important for competitors to attend to familiarise themselves with the planned racing.

11 Aug DSC Club Championship
This is a one day competition comprising three races to determine who is the King Cat of 2005. As well as the Dinghy Duke of course. More info. Note - Safety cover will be in place on the Saturday for anyone practicing.

Sometimes as Web Editor, some really galling piece of news lands on your desk: Mark takes a clear lead in the alliteration stakes.

2 Aug Whombaff Virgin
When I first joined the club to start sailing, I wrote an article to describe my experience as a novice sailor setting out on the Cat sailing adventure. I ended it with the words "With this level of determination and commitment, just watch out for us in a year's time. By then JJ will no longer be in pink and we will be focused on going fast rather than how to reach the water." Four years later I have started to win races. So how did I get on as a Dinghy Sailor on my maiden voyage? Article

12 July Medieval Banquet This Saturday (16 July)

This is your chance to get the revenge you have earned during the Fit For Sailing torture sessions. Or maybe you've co-helmed a boat with the Rear Comm (Soc). Certainly one Missus E has seized her chance and imprisoned the former Beast Master (part-time) for all to enjoy. Don't miss a chance to pelt Master E with wet sponges or just barbed comments this weekend. You know he'll love it! Details

5 July Boat Jumble Sale 16 July
Here's a chance to get started on the fund raising for our new boat shed. A Grand Boat Jumble Sale will be held at the club during the afternoon of the Medieval Banquet on 16 July. Now, of course the club doesn't have a great deal of jumble to sell (anyone who has looked in the containers behind the clubhouse may disagree) so we're looking for donations from club members - or anyone you may know. This is a great opportunity to clear out your unwanted boat bits and to start the fundraising process for the boat shed. So if you have spares for your old boat that has long departed for other shores, this is your chance to unload them for a good cause. Contact Rear Commodore (Social) to donate your items, or to volunteer to man the stall for an hour or two.

31 May Had an Accident? After inflicting near mortal wounds on Animal, Mark is now able to recommend local boat repairer K Galway Marine Services. Contact details. Those of you who saw Adrian cross the line in front of Colin twice on Sunday will realise what excellent repair work Kevin must do. Perhaps his magic dust is all you need before the next big race!

26 May Dart 18's GP3 at Datchet Water. Dee again had a fairly strong presence for the 3 rd Dart 18 Event of this season held at Datchet Water Sailing Club on the 14/15 May. Read Paul Roberts' report, and how Steve clinched yet another handicap award.

22 May Wirral and Mersey Regatta Online Entry. You can now use the Online Entry for the Wirral and Mersey Regatta Series. Go on, do it now, before find yourself mowing the grass or painting the spare bedroom. All you need to know can be found on their web-site.

20 May RWBSC Cat Open - NOT the Anglesey Offshore Dinghy Race. When is a Dart 18 not a Cat? When you enter the Red Wharf Bay Open. It's a great place to sail and here are the details. Additional info from Dave Wood that made me a lot happier: " This is not the AODR and is a Catamaran open only. You can store your Cats at the club and should not have any problems with other trailers as we do not expect an entry of 70 to 80 as per the off shore. The start and finish are both at the club so no need for trailer moving "

18 May Open Day Update. This year's Open Day is already looking as though it will be one of the DSC's busiest, with a great response to promotion in the local press. The current forecast is for a good sailing breeze, so visitors will have the opportunity for a thrilling sail, or a gentle potter, depending on their preferred boat. With the numbers expected to be high, we suggest you arrive early for the best chance of a sail. We would like to give our guests the best experience on and off the water, so we urge as many members as possible to get their boats out on Saturday and be prepared to lend their spare kit out.

17 May DeeTour to Vasiliki. Mark Emptage's report of a week spent in Cat sailing heaven. If you need any convincing to go to WildWind, read this, or better still join us on our next trip! Seeing is believing: Mark's photo gallery.

16 May Safety Section Added to Links Page. Important Safety information has been added to the Links page. It is focused on avoiding and treating hypothermia and might just safe your life. With snow forecast for this coming Friday night (!) it is still worth reading.

13 May Dart 18 Fleet Weekly Update. James' weekly update is here.

12 May Coronation Race. This Sunday, 15 May, sees the club's annual pursuit race - the Coronation Race. Faster boats have to catch up the slower boats who start earlier. It's great fun! You will enjoy it... IF YOU SAIL. The race is based on the slowest boat racing for one and a half hours. Full details

05 May Dart 18s at Bala Open. The May Day Bank Holiday Weekend saw the Dart fleet return to Bala Lake after more than a decade's absence, for their second TT event of 2005. Although there was a strong showing by the Dee fleet, there's clearly a force to be reckoned with from that well known South Coast port of Basingstoke. Official Report.

05 May Fast Cats at Bala Open. A couple of Fast Cats made their way to Bala for the three day event. The Editor awaits a report from the Wild Cat team, who have quite a story to tell. Meantime, the Fast Cat results are available here.

24 Apr Fast Cat Training Report. On any learning curve there is a point at which even the most profoundly inept student has a ‘light bulb' moment. [Ed: like, when on the maiden voyage of your shiny new F18, polished to perfection for four months, avoid the big orange things in the water? Or how to get the Captain to volunteer to leap from the safety of the Rib into the murk of the Dee, without a buoyancy aid?] Over to Mark Emptage for a typically erudite tale.

17 Apr Fast Cat Training. A reminder for anyone attending the Fast Cat Training, scheduled for Sat 23 April.

13 Mar New Sailing Instructions for 2005. New sailing instructions have been released for 2005. They will be important to you if you sail a Dart 16, a Handicap Cat, Fast Cat, Mirror, or use the Black buoy. They'll also be of special note to those of you who miss the occasional day's racing... DNC scoring has been adjusted to be less harsh, so if you miss a few days, you will still be in with a chance for a good position in the series - all the more reason to sail when you do get the chance! Visit the Sailing Info for the details.
