8 October Club Championship
Windy? You bet! But fun. Sorry, no results yet, but here's what happened to the Cats . And thanks to Ian McLean for the Monohull view. Ian had an interesting thought - " is a true club champion one who has won the Championship in a Mono and a Cat??" Seems like a valid point to me!

7 October Waterfight at DSC
The Raid on Crooks Landing had to be abandoned today due to high winds. So the waterfight planned for the marshes of the upper reaches of Dee was relocated to the grassy lawns of the Sailing Club. The 'red flag' was captured, but not without a severe wetting for the defenders. Roger Sanders captured it on film, and if anyone wonders where those WMDs (Weapons Made for Drenching) were hiding, looks like we've found them here.

5 October Revitalising the Club
The club's committees are seeking ideas from members about how to revitalise all club activities. This is of high importance to make sure the club moves in the right direction for everyone's benefit. The next Sailing Committee meeting on 7 November will focus solely on this topic - and your input is needed. More information here.

5 October Understanding the Course Card
New racers at the club are often confounded by our Course Card. So is Colin. Here's a description of how to interpret it.

27 Sept Club Championships 2006
It must be time to set the record straight, at least for another year. Were the results last year a bit of a fluke, with top places being decided by who made out for the first race on time? For those of us who have sailed the circuit this year, has it made a difference to our standing in the club? Time to find out! Details here.

21 May Wombaff Photos
This year's Wombaff Trophy was a barrel of laughs as usual. The news: James fell in. Everything else could have been predicted:

The youth squad thrashed everyone.
Everyone else fell in. (Apart from Simon Moruzzi, Speddo, Mike, and maybe Ian).
It was windy.
It was fun.

Kate took a trillion photos - here's a selection.

18 May DSC Oppie News
The Youth Squad have been trail blazing round the country, to very good effect. Well done to Cameron and Michael. If you're not worried about the Wombaff Trophy, here's why you need to look out for these two especially!

16 May Wombaff
Time for a challenge: Experience over youth? Will the Desperate Dads Dig for Victory? Fast Cats, Slow Planks? It's the annual inter-fleet competition that means the most. Be there, this Saturday at 3pm, at the Marine Lake.

11 May Proposed New Handicaps for the Fast Cats
We all know how frustrating it can be trailing round at the back of the fleet for a couple of years while you learn the ropes. The Fast Cat fleet is considering adjusting the handicaps applied to the older boats and to new sailors. The objective is to level the playing field, especially for new sailors. The hope is that this will allow new sailors to climb the results table early and therefore to encourage their continued participation in club racing. As they become more experienced, their handicap will be reduced, so they will need to learn and apply new skills. Obviously, these handicaps can only be applied in Fast Cat fleet racing - not for the Open events, Evening Series or Round Hilbre Series. Proposed Handicaps

9 May Help Needed for Open Day
Need I say more? We particularly need help on the beach, looking after people and equipment. Please let your Fleet Captain know if you can assist.

9 May Sailwave Usage Notes
Here's a set of basic notes to get you started with Sailwave, to produce Results. It's surprisingly simple!

9 May F18 Nationals 2006

7 May Dee SC PY Handicap Ratings and Racing Series description published on Sailing Info Page ...
OK, so not exactly news. The DSC PY Ratings are important for those of us who sail on handicap. They are used in mixed mono/cat events, such as the Evening Series and the Round Hilbre Series. The aim is to adjust handicaps to take account of the effect of tide on boatspeed. This allows us to score monos and cats together. The Racing Series is a description of the various race series - what did you expect?

...Leading to Revised Hilbre Results
Why are these 'rules' important? There are subtle differences between the PY, DSC PY and SCHRS handicapping systems. Ours has the objective of making things fairer to slower boats racing where we have a strong tidal current, whilst allowing us to combine monos and cats in a series. The net effect of this can be small changes in handicapped results. This has impacted the Round Hilbre results for Race 1, so please accept my apologies for the earlier publication based on SCHRS. Combined with the need to handicap Pussy Galore as a cat boat in the Hilbre races, the net effect has been to promote White Tiger to second, at the expense of Hilberrys Couture, now fourth, without affecting Pussy Galore, who remains third.

3 May Open Day - Invitation to Members
Open Day is a great day out for members as well as guests - and we would appreciate your support. What can you do to make it a success?

30 April Round Hilbre 1 Report
Success at last: after several attempts to run a Round Hilbre race last year, we had perfect conditions yesterday. Results are yet to be confirmed, but one thing is clear: a new Elapsed Time Record has been set by the youngest helm in the race. Report.

29 April Saturday Sailing
My sympathies to those of you who were forced to go camping, hill walking, or even worse, stay at home. You missed a treat. Report.

25 April Open Day 13 May
Open Day is almost upon us again! Last year we had over 100 people sign up for sailing on Open Day. We're expecting an even bigger turnout this year, with a more 'sensible' start time of 10:00, and a sunny forecast (according to my private three week prediction service, and various bits of seaweed strewn about the place). Club members are invited to share their boats with potential new club members, and the public is invited to find out what they have been missing. Details here.

24 April Revised Sailing Program...
Is now available here.

26 Jan Wirral Regatta Series - Dates Announced

17 Jan Congratulations to Gareth Owen and Angus Armstrong - 2nd in Dart Worlds

Photo © Mark de Wet

Gareth and Angus dealt with conditions rarely seen at the Dee, to take second spot in the Dart Worlds last month. The conditions were atrocious - so he should have many tales to tell next time you catch him in the bar. Read the Yachts and Yachting report here.
