9 December Bar Opening Hours
Support for the normal opening of the Club from 18.00 to 21.00 on Friday evenings has been dwindling to the point that the Club is making a loss on most Fridays. Rather than continue this situation the General Committee has decided that normal Club openings on Friday evenings will be suspended from now on and the position will be reviewed in April/May 2010. This relates only to normal openings. The Club is available to be booked for special events on Fridays in the usual way.

28 July Dart Nationals volunteers needed
The Dart Nationals are only four weeks away and the House & Social Committee are looking for volunteers throughout the event, especially during the daytime. We really need help from anybody prepared to assist with breakfast rolls, manning the tuck shop, prepare food for evening meals, cooking on the BBQ’s and general cleaning duties. We need help from 7.30am throughout the day, on every day of the event, breaks are allowed and the work is very satisfying! The club also needs volunteers to assist with trollies on the beach and looking after car parking etc. If anybody is willing to volunteer, at any time, then please get in touch with Andy or Paula Goudie ASAP, so they can put you on a rota. This is a great opportunity to get ‘stuck in’ and see the club at its best, and don’t forget ‘Insanity Beach' and 'Dr Duke’ are appearing on the Friday and Saturday night. Please come and get involved in what will be the biggest week ever for the Club ever!!!!
Andy Goudie

22 June Final Reminder for Subscriptions and Storage Charges
According to Club records and despite several communications from the Membership Secretary, a handful of members have not yet paid their 2009 membership subscriptions and/or storage charges.

At its meeting on 18 June the General Committee decided to post a list of the non-payers in the Clubhouse. At its next meeting on 16 July the General Committee proposes to consider exercising its powers of expulsion under Rule 20 in relation to any such member who has not paid what is owing to the Club by that date.

So, if you are in doubt about your position come and check the list in the Club and pay up if you still owe monies to the Club!
Dave Edmundson

14 June Pigeon Carrier

Report from Greg:
Four of the DSC cruisers were in the middle of the estuary last Sunday minding their own business on a really nice day, when out of a clear blue sky they were joined by a visitor. A totally worn out racing pigeon landed on deck and stayed and stayed and eventually had to be taken ashore in a knapsack.

It had drunk its fill of water offered on board and once in Pensby it cleared all the bird seed on offer too and later went to a local expert for more food and tlc overnight before release next day.

The things you learn out on the Dee, did you know that racing pigeons often have their owner’s telephone number inked on their starboard wing. A phone call would be made to explain him going AWOL.

12 June DSC Centenary Party
Join in the party mood with Doctor Duke Band and your mates to celebrate the club's centenary, on Saturday 11 July. Poster here.

We'll be opening our doors to visitors in a couple of weeks' time - details of the Open Day are available here.

9 April WANTED: Web Editor / Web Master
Due to changing work commitments, opportunities have arisen to practice your technical and editorial skills in the context of your favourite pass-time. If you'd like to be responsible for the "internet face" of the club, please contact Andy Goudie, or the webeditor. The web editor role is not particularly "techy", so if you can edit a doc and crop a picture, you're in. The web master role is a bit more skilled - but in either case, assistance will be provided.

9 April - Coronation Race Times Updated Here

8 April Coronation Race - Easter Saturday
This year's Coronation Race is scheduled for Easter Saturday. This is a great chance for all boats to race against each other, in an overtaking race. Slowest start first, and the fastest last... then whoever is in front at the declared finish time is the winner: Tip: the finish is dependent on elapsed time, not crossing the line, etc.

Start times for all classes are shown here.

8 April Mainsheet
Just in time for Easter, some light reading for a quiet Sunday afternoon. Download Mainsheet here - beware, it is a large file (5mb), but it does have lots of lovely pictures. Thanks to Pete Clements and team for putting it together.

2 April Spring Boats
The season officially begins, here.

21 Mar Past Commodores Dinner

16 Mar Table Tennis at the Club
The Table Tennis Table has arrived and is rigged and ready for use. Both Juniors and Adults are welcome to have a go - increase your fitness, hand to eye coordination and agility - all handy for sailing-apparently?

10 Mar World Team Racing Championships ? Perth Australia
Cameron Douglas recently returned from the Team racing world championships in Australia. Cameron was a last minute addition to the UK under 21 team when unfortunately one of the team was taken ill. The team, all from West Kirby, won the under 21 bronze medal. They were beaten by a strong Australian team who went on to win the silver medal in the senior competition and by the team from New Zealand.

10 Mar GBR Youth Squad Train at DSC
On the 1 st March, 11 of the GBR Youth squad members came to DSC for an early season racing session on the sea. Access to sea sailing is some what limited in the north and all the attendees welcomed the chance to get on the sea and not to have to travel to the south coast!!. There will be a follow up session on the 15 th March.

5 Mar Social Calendar 2009
The 2009 Social Calendar is now available for viewing - loads of activity coming up, starting with the Open Day and Burnt Burgers & Quorn on 23 May.

5 Mar Extra Working Parties
Due to the late start (blame it on the advent of a proper winter for a change), we are in need of some extra work parties. This is mostly a painting mission, to get the Ark ready for the season. Please feel free to attend on any Saturday morning from 9:30 over the coming weeks.

5 Mar West Kirby Marine Lake Closure
While the Marine Lake is closed (rumours of its demise are not so unfounded after all), our Saturday sailing will be transfrered to the Dee club site, with sailing taking place on the estuary. These are already scheduled in the Sailing Programme. Table Tennis will follow.

4 Mar Dart 16s are Available
Sailing Committee confirmed that two Dart 16s are available for use during club sailing times. While they are intended primarily for Youths & Juniors, they are also available to Adults. Contact Paul Oliver for more information.

Dart 16s are available!

4 Mar Dart Nationals - Volunteers Needed
I'm sure you know we are hosting the Dart Nationals in our centenary year! They will run from 20-23 August. Clearly, there's much work to be done, both during the event, and in the run up to it. This is a prestigious event amongst the fleet, with a high turnout expected at the Nationals this year due to other events being overseas. Organisation is well underway, and we now need volunteers to join in the preparation and to make themselves available throughout the event. Please contact James or Will, and let them what you're willing to do (no job is too big or too small!).

4 Mar Junior Knights
Yes, that was a typo. I meant Junior Nights - which will start on Friday 27 March, from 7 - 9 pm. Various activities will be available, with a table tennis being one of the options.

4 Mar Racing Rules
Please note that when racing, will be using the new Racing Rules of Sailing with immediate effect.

4 Mar Sailing Programme
The latest version has been uploaded, This includes the rescue rota, but please note that this is "work in progress" at the moment.

11 Feb Rules Training at WKSC on 12 March

This will be a great opportunity to ask those awkward questions which always come about after racing.

11 Feb Boat Whisperer at WKSC on 26 Feb
Another one from Paul Jenkins of WKSC: Steve Cockerill from Rooster Sailing will be coming to West Kirby Sailing Club on the 26 th February 2009 to give one of his excellent Boat Whisperer talks. It starts at 7.30 and finishes quite late.

7 Feb Work Parties
I thought we were going to get away with it, but no, work parties have been arranged after all! See below for details of which fleet is expected when. 17 Dec - Prize Giving, Sunday 11 January
Some of you may have noticed that there are two dates quoted for the Prize Giving in this month's mainsheet. In true Dee style and for reasons that are too complicated to explain, the date has been changed again! The Prize Giving will now be held on Sunday 11 th January at 1.00pm.  In fact, why go home from the Hot Pot, just sleep next to the Snooker Table and dream about receiving a trophy? (I dream about receiving trophies all the time!)
Andy Goudie
