It is not long now until the start of the Spring on the Water Regattas formally known as the Liverpool Boat Show Regatta. (30th April – 2nd May 2011)
As you may know in February Marine Industries pulled out of the event due to the poor performance of the London and Southampton Boats Shows and announced the Boat Show was cancelled however Liverpool City Council and other stake holders came to the rescue to ensure the show would still go ahead under the name of the Spring on the Water Festival.
This will be a great weekend of racing for multihulls on the River Mersey, Colin Thomas, Rob Clarke and myself along with members of The Kindred Clubs have put in many months work to ensure top quality racing will be provided for the event.
We have the use of Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton to use as a base with the following facilities:
- Fenced off boat storage for the duration of the regatta with 24hr manned security, available from 09:00hrs on the Friday
- Changing facilities inside the fort
- Bar and café facilities
- Free parking
- Free BBQ at prize giving
There will be multihull racing for Handicap cats and a separate Dart 18 Fleet with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd provided by Peel Holdings/Ports, racing will take boats down the river in front of the Liver Building where commentary will be given on the racing for those at the show, and then back up river towards Southport.
As a club it is essential that we are well represented at the regatta as most of the budget for the racing has come our way due to the Multihulls being the desired back drop for the show. We have a number of entries of visiting boats from all over the country but we really need a strong club presence on the water, as the whole purpose of this event is to sell the club and promote Multihull racing in the north of England.
The entrance fee for the event is £30 which covers, racing for the 3 days, boat storage and the prize giving BBQ. Please enter sooner than later as the fee is likely to go up nearer the regattas. You can pick an entry form up from the club or online: www.http://www.kindred-clubs-regattas.com/
If you are without a helm/crew/boat and would like to take part in the racing please let me know either by email or phone (07977100952) and I will sort something out for you. Camping at Dee sailing club will also be available free of charge for the duration of the regatta and a curry night/social is planned at DSC on the 29th.
We are also looking for volunteers to man the clubs stand in the Albert Dock during the show.
