Beginner Stories

We’ve all been there. Some more recently than others… A good few of the regular sailors at DSC are relatively new to the game. They were people who had just seen catamarans from a distance but decided they had to have a piece of the action. Here’s a selection of stories to warn you, prepare you or motivate you to ‘go for it’ yourself:

A Beginner’s Tale – Graham Maxwell has been determined to sail for the last forty years. In 2005 he finally made it, landing on the shores of Dee SC. This is his take on his first year’s sailing and the benefits of club membership for a novice.

First Open Meeting – Graeme Nicholson recently entered his first Open Event in the esoteric world of International Canoes. He clearly had a great time amongst supportive fellow ‘plankers’ and vows this will be the first of many events.

Pretty in Pink – Simon Stannard started sailing at Dee SC in 2001, with no previous experience. This story was written after the first two weekends spent trying to reach the water. Suffice to say that four years later, Team Stannard/Harris have finally cracked it, with race wins to their credit.
