If you use a Marine VHF radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) including VHF Hand held radios on any vessel voluntarily fitted with a DSC VHF Radio it is required by law that you gain the RYA VHF RADIO Short Range Certificate (SRC). All new VHF sets are either fitted, or can be interfaced, with DSC allowing calls to other vessels or shore station, if you hold the ‘old’ VHF licence (Restricted) (pre-1999) you need to upgrade your qualification to the RYA VHF RADIO (SRC) if you purchase new equipment fitted with DSC including VHF Handheld radios. You can achieve this by attending this one-day course at a reduced rate, please contact us for further information.
